Presentation Title

“Creating A New Normal In Your Hydronic Systems”

Presentation Abstract

This presentation focuses on proven opportunities to lower the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) involving chilled water and heating hot water systems.  The content features actual case history metrics developed over the course of several decades and state-of-the-art energy modeling techniques.  This data is used to estimate the significant financial and operational costs associated with air-caused heat transfer inefficiencies in chiller and boiler systems.  The impact on key system components such as pumps, chillers, boilers, control valves, mag meters, system piping, terminal units is discussed, and more.

The underlying reasons for these incremental and unnecessary costs are examined as well as the surprising scale of the Opportunity Cost present.  Additional research discusses why system designers and Building Owners need to be aware that a standard industry formula commonly used during the design of Chilled and Hot Water systems is inaccurate.  The discussion also reviews how the true impact of entrained air on pumps has not traditionally been well researched within the HVAC industry – but it has in other pump industry segments.  The presentation will conclude with a review of actual field case studies documenting the metrics of actual system improvements and increased energy and other system and operational efficiencies after removing air and dirt from these systems.
